Company Background

Spaceworks Developments Inc., Interior Design & Planning has been operating as a separate interior design firm since 2004. Prior to that (1994 to 2004) the design team worked for Ellins Architect Inc. and before that, the principal, Bodil (Brooke) Ellins, operated the firm, Brooke Interior Design Associates (1984-1994).

Location

Our main office and resource library are located on Gabriola Island. We also maintain a satellite office and boardroom space in downtown Nanaimo where our client meetings generally take place. We undertake a diverse array of projects that are primarily located throughout the central region of Vancouver Island.

Design Team

The Principal and Senior Designer are both *NCIDQ qualified Interior Designers and active members of *IDIBC. The Junior Designer, a recent graduate, is currently working towards her certification. As Spaceworks shares offices with Ellins Architect Inc., we also have direct access to architectural expertise.

Bodil Ellins Principal Designer & Owner

Qualifications: B.I.D. (Ryerson University), M. Ed. (Simon Fraser University), R.I.D. (IDIBC and IDC), NCIDQ cert. #6872.
Bodil oversees all phases of work from conceptual design & planning through to project completion. In addition to her work at the Spaceworks studio, Bodil is a professor / Instructor in the Interior Design Program at Vancouver Island University. (One of the three BC schools recognized by IDIBC).

Lou Gagné Senior Designer

Qualifications: Dip I.D. (Malaspina University College) Dip. Art & Merchandising (Langara College), R.I.D. (IDIBC & IDC) NCIDQ cert. #021755.
Lou shares in all aspects of the work produced and is responsible for the day to day coordination of all active projects.

Gabriela Van Duyn (past) and Tara Hullah (current) Intern Students

Our firm supports the Vancouver Island University, Bachelor of Interior Design program by hiring students at the 3rd to 4th year level to intern on a part time basis. The students provide support in a variety of areas including research, presentation work and contract documents and in turn receive valuable work experience including the opportunity to attend client and site meetings.

Associates:

Spaceworks continues to enjoy a close working relationship with Ellins Architect. Jerry Ellins, MAIBC and Andrea Kriss, Architectural Building Technologist, provide technical assistance and additional brainstorming crew when the need arises. As well we collaborate with many other Registered Professionals, Engineers, Contractors, Project Managers and Government Agencies.
